Overview

Washington County was established December 7th, 1776. Named for George Washington, then Commander in Chief of the Continental Army, this dynamic region is a cultural and economic lynchpin of the state, offering a wide range of activities, both historical and modern. The county seat is historic Abingdon, named after the ancestral home of Martha Washington.

With Tri-Cities Regional Airport less than forty miles away, the Norfolk-Southern railroad running through the county and I-81 and highways 11, 19, and 58 all waiting to bring you to us, we invite you to join the thousands each year who come to Washington County.
